KEOFI holds its Advocacy walk and Family day

For the very first time, Kaibigan Foundation made an unforgettable environmental awareness activity which was participated in by different Non-Government Organizations here in Manila. It was called Advocacy Walk with the theme: “Kalikasan at Kabataan, Ating Pag-ingatan! Pundasyon sa Maayos at Malusog na Pamayanan”.

More after the break..

Around 900 participants attended the said walk, including children, parents, staff, Board of Directors, alumni, donors, People’s Organizations such as Topacio-Neighborhood Association (TOP-NA), Kagalingan ng Pamilya sa Komunidad ng Malate (KAPAKO), Pasigline Family and Community Welfare Association (PAFACOWA), Onyx Lending and Junkshop Association (OLJA), Sta. Ana Tejeron Upliftment Organization (STEP-UP) and Baseco Integrated Networks for Household Improvement (BINHI), as well as KEOFI’s NGO-partners including Educational Research Assistance Foundation (ERDA), Virlanie, Minstrel Rhythm of Hope (MRH), Vincentian Missionaries Social Development Foundation (VMSDFI), Sun for All Children (SFAC), Kanlungan sa Erma and Kaisahang Buhay Foundation (KBF) – gathered in Rajah Soliman, Malate, Manila to make way for the start of the said advocacy walk.

The walk hopes to give environmental awareness -   it emphasizes that each one of us could do our little share to save the environment from total destruction which causes death to thousands of people and the primary victims are children. This could be done through simple acts such as planting trees, proper disposal of garbage, saving energy at home, wise consumption of water and the like.

Before the actual parade started, a short program in Rajah Soliman Park was held with performances from different children’s groups in the form of rap, dance and songs.  Speeches regarding care for the environment were also delivered by the children and adults.

The actual walk was made extra special with the colorful t-shirt of the participants, with their head and hand gears. Slogans and banners made from recyclable materials were raised and highlighted in the parade. Creative chants and continuous rendering of happy songs played by 30-piece Manila City Hall Band added fun and excitement to the event. Deputy Mayor of Manila, Mr. Joey Silva and District 1 Councilor, Mr. Niño dela Cruz also graced the affair.

The advocacy walk ended in Rizal Memorial Sports Complex wherein the next activity, Family Day, was held. This was a whole day affair which aims to give opportunity to families to enjoy and strengthen their relationship through sports and games under the banner of healthy competition. Various Filipino games were conducted such as kadang-kadang, basagang palayok, palosebo, tug of war and the like. Winners of different games received simple gifts such as towels and soap for the adults and chocolates for the children.

The Advocacy Walk and Family Day was spearheaded by   KAIBIGAN Foundation in collaboration with its partner-GOs, Pos and NGOs.

Congratulations KEOFI from AWCD!
